Working as a Flight Mechanics Specialist at Leonardo Helicopters in Yeovil, your role will be key in guaranteeing sufficient capacity for engineering to support our increasing number of programs and products, across their entire life cycle, spanning from the design and development phase up to certification and including support to production and in-service operation.

You will carry out analytical assessments of flight data on the helicopter platforms, in order to support product development and military/civil qualifications from Flight Mechanics perspective.

Key Responsibility Areas

Analyse and document handling qualities of Leonardo Helicopters Division products
Carry out performance handling qualities analysis / flight dynamics simulations and compare with existing experimental data to produce related documentation
Analyse and document experimental and/or analytical data
Study and understand the flight mechanics of standard and new rotorcraft configurations and develop performance
Write and test algorithms for implementation in the simulation codes
Test and validate the implemented models/algorithms
Coordinate with the Chief Project to ensure inputs, outputs, priorities and deliverables are coherent with project plans, assumptions and objectives
Coordinate with Head of Discipline and Technical Leaders to ensure the methods used are appropriate and the quality of the results is in line with the Flight Mechanics standards and procedures

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

We really need you to have:

A degree in a relevant technical subject (Aerospace/Aeronautical/Automation engineering are preferred)
Knowledge/experience in aeromechanics subjects (rotorcraft/aircraft flight mechanics and performance are preferred)
Strong understanding of basic flight physics and rotorcraft background
Some experience in flight mechanics mathematical modelling and simulations
Knowledge and possible experience of aircraft type certification standards (civil and military)
Knowledge of the most significant military rotorcraft and Leonardo products
Model validation
Experience in massive data analysis
It would be great if you have any of the following:

Knowledge in stability and control analysis to evaluate and size helicopter to meet CS-29/27 and ADS33E requirements
An understanding of weapons integration on rotorcraft
Preparation and optimization of design development, certification and qualification flight test plans
Knowledge of linear and non-linear helicopter response analysis for stability and handling quality assessments
Knowledge in rotor blades rigid movements, its modelling key points and impact on operating capability
Strong understanding of linear algebra to handle big data problems
Knowledge of analytical tools (Matlab, Flightlab or similar)
