We are looking for a passionate and engaging individual to join our established education team in a partnership project between RSPB and CAFRE Greenmount to deliver an exciting education programme from April – June and September – December 2024 aimed at connecting young people with nature along an established nature trail in the grounds of the agricultural college.

Duration: 9 months

This is a Fixed-Term zero-hours contract for a maximum of 15 hours per week. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

What’s the role about?

This is an opportunity to make a real difference enriching the lives of children and young people, inspiring them to care and learn more about the natural world through curriculum linked educational activities delivered in a variety of habitats.

In addition to proven experience in a learning environment, you’ll be a passionate communicator, able to enthuse visitors about nature. You’ll need confidence and the ability to facilitate a day’s education programme both in the classroom and in the field with a group of school children and their teacher.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Good level of general ecological and natural history knowledge.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and Safeguarding issues with regards to outdoor education.
  • Confidence and ability to facilitate a day’s programme both in the field and in the classroom with a group of students and their teacher.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of ages and abilities of children.
  • Abundant enthusiasm and excellent communication skills.
  • Previous teaching experience or work with groups of young people.
  • Working experience of environmental education.
  • Working experience of teaching outdoors.

Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • Teaching or youth work degree/qualification
  • Experience of working with young people
