Job Description

  • Carry out all cleaning duties in the kitchen area in accordance with the work schedule including dirty crockery collection, washing up and storage.
  • General cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen areas, equipment and appliances.
  • Receiving, checking, and safely storing kitchen deliveries
  • To assist in both hot and cold food preparation and serving of meals within the Home
  • Understand the principles of safe food handling, to ensure all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen is to the highest standards of hygiene.
  • Understand the cleaning requirements of different surfaces and equipment and the properties of cleaning materials, to ensure the areas are cleaned appropriately, are well presented and maintained in good condition
  • Practise safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of people who live in the home, visitors and team members.
  • Understand personal responsibilities in relation to the health and Safety at Work and demonstrate a working knowledge of COSHH assessments applicable in own work area.
  • Act accordingly towards people who live in the home, their visitors, and team members respecting the dignity and individual quality of each person.
  • Contribute fully to team working responding positively to colleagues and actioning all reasonable work instructions promptly
  • Advise on the supply and quantity of items used to carry out tasks, ensuring the timely and appropriate ordering of replacement goods.
  • Take reasonable care of items of equipment used to carry out tasks, including general cleanliness and advising on any faults and the need for maintenance or replacement
  • Responsible for the safe and tidy storage of supplies and equipment.
  • To provide food and drink, as requested by the Residents
  • To be aware of the dietary needs of people who live in the home and respond to their comments and requests in respect of the menu
  • To ensure that there are sufficient catering provisions in each household.
  • To wash all equipment, cutlery and crockery and place away promptly
  • To ensure that the kitchen is effectively cleaned as per the cleaning schedules and adhering to COSHH regulations
  • To dispose of waste correctly
  • To monitor and maintain effective stock control and rotation
  • To report any shortages of stock to the Head Chef / Cook.
  • To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention being paid to perishable goods
  • To identify and report any malfunction or damage to equipment to the Head Cook/ Cook
  • To work in as part of a team
  • To attend training sessions as required
  • To attend meetings as required
  • To actively promote a non-discriminatory approach to the service industry.
  • To adhere to and maintain the company’s policies and procedures.
  • To conduct oneself professionally, in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct, through behaviour, communication skills, appearance and standards of personal hygiene.

Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Head Chef, Chef or Home Manager.
