Role Overview

This role is ideal for candidates who want to make use of their technical expertise in civil engineering and apply it to a more customer facing role which is a step away from hands on engineering and a move forward towards consultancy. No previous consulting experience is necessary.

Our R&D team currently has a vacancy for a Consultant in their Research & Development (R&D) team who will have responsibility for managing a portfolio of clients. This involves undertaking technical assessment, interviewing senior civil engineers across a wide variety of industries to understand what R&D projects clients are undertaking and how they can be further enhanced through government incentives such as R&D Tax Credits.

This is a client facing role where the consultant will be working with customers from a wide range of industry sectors undertaking civil engineering activities. A key requirement is the ability to translate complex ideas into non-technical concepts and communicate these to a broad, generally non-technical client base. The right candidate will have the opportunity to work with highly skilled and experienced engineers, scientists and consultants while witnessing the latest innovations in the UK.

In return we will offer:

* 23 days paid holiday, excluding bank holidays
* a bonus scheme based upon performance
* an incentive scheme in respect of new work
* regular technical and skills training
* a real opportunity to progress your career in the medium term

The Role

* Undertaking the technical assessment of R&D and producing the technical summary
* Identification of qualifying R&D projects and expenditure through participation in technical discussions with clients
* Ensuring R&D claims meet the requirements of the relevant legislation
* Project management of claims such as liaison with clients, colleagues and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to ensure claims are optimised and deadlines are met
* First point of contact with client
* Developing relationships with relevant key contacts at HMRC
