IT Technician

IT Technician / Newcastle / 6 months CX / £11.60ph

Echo Plan Ltd. is urgently seeking a contract IT Technician to be based in Newcastle. You will be assisting the IT Manager in providing a reliable technical hardware and software support service for the Foundation’s voice and data networks including all component parts, across all of the Foundation’s locations. Helping in the provision, guidance and support of service users using IT equipment within the Foundation to achieve the aims and goals of the Foundation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• To support the IT Manager in a wide range of installations, repairs, upgrades and support tasks related to the Foundation’s IT environment.
• Reporting and recording of all faults and work requests from origin through to eventual resolution using the Foundation’s Help Desk platform and supporting policies and procedures. Assuming ownership and responsibility for all allocated tasks.
• To assist in the record keeping and maintenance of a full and up-to-date inventory of hardware and software, including licences.
• Maintenance of the Foundation’s IT assets ensuring that equipment and services are in good working order and faults are diagnosed and repaired or recorded and reported where immediate resolutions are not possible or require third party intervention.
• Detection and resolution of software, PC, laptop, tablet, network, printer and other peripheral device faults.
• Provide help-desk and front line support for the main application programs and IT services and to provide technical guidance otherwise.
• To assist with the security marking and tracking of ICT equipment.
• To ensure that Foundation policy related to access to data and files are implemented and help oversee the safe use of IT facilities.
• Monitor and secure the central IT systems, such as the servers and network infrastructure, to ensure that they operate optimally.
• To assist with the backup processes of all systems and ensure safe storage of backup media. This will include data management tasks such as the removal or archival of redundant data, to ensure that appropriate use of Foundation resources and security of information

Qualifications
GCSE’s or equivalent including English and Mathematics (Grade C or above)
Formal qualification related to ICT or equivalent experience.

Demonstrable practical experience in a Microsoft-centric ICT Environment
Experience of installing, using and maintaining:
• Windows Server 2003+ including Active Directory and Group Policy
• Windows XP/Vista/7/8
• Microsoft Office 2003+
• Apple iPads
• Microsoft Windows networking
• TCP/IP networking
• Wireless Networking
• Internet Security
• Security Software and Firewalls
