IT Technician

Purpose of the role:

To collaborate with the Systems Administrator in overseeing the day-to-day management of Educational Institution’s Network. Offering advanced support to both staff and students, coordinating with external contractors and technicians to ensure timely and comprehensive project delivery. Leading the implementation of livestream solutions and transitioning towards a cloud-centric approach. Managing projects such as EMA Exams and the administration of Cloud Platforms like School Post, Google Admin, and Firefly.

Duties:

  • Develop and oversee EMA and Firefly VLE, including EMA Exams, with provided training.
  • Lead the integration of Firefly across departments to maintain data accuracy and support educators.
  • Provide primary IT Helpdesk assistance to staff and students.
  • Independently manage assigned tasks and calls, offering support to colleagues when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Administrator to maintain an up-to-date and secure inventory register, ensuring efficient hardware management procedures.
  • Supervise WEEE Waste processes and associated suppliers, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Assist the Systems Administrator in promptly resolving Server and networking issues.
  • Support the Helpdesk Manager in system development projects and customizations.
  • Thoroughly test software and hardware installations for functionality.
  • Monitor and report any issues with backups to the Systems Administrator.
  • Create, update, and distribute documentation related to system installations and support.
  • Facilitate remote and onsite access for system vendors to diagnose and rectify faults.
  • Conduct post-change or fault testing on systems to ensure operational integrity.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Administrator to maintain the institution’s security posture annually.
  • Undertake project R&D and prepare analysis reports for project proposals and cost analysis.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in supporting Office 365, iSAMS, Mac OS, Windows 10/11 for staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive data with discretion.
  • Quick uptake of new concepts and technologies.
  • Strong familiarity with Windows/Mac desktop environments.
  • Extensive experience with AV configurations and solutions.
  • Mobile device support expertise, covering iOS and Android platforms.
  • Competence in LAN and Wi-Fi networking.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and Azure.
  • Experience in configuring, installing, and troubleshooting network printers and scanners.
  • Broad consumable support experience (e.g., toner replacement, projector bulbs).

Additional desirable skills:

  • Microsoft Office 365 cloud administration.
  • Familiarity with VoIP, particularly Teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft System Centre/Intune.
  • Prior experience in a school environment.
  • Familiarity with iSams, Firefly, and Planet EStream platforms.
