At Z-Tech we have an exciting opportunity for an ICA Technician to join our Water business unit, with the opportunity to interface with a variety of instrumentation and control systems with multiple OEM products.
Through the installation, verification and integration services we deliver, we support our customers in providing accurate analytical data to support their day-to-day operations and compliance with regulatory targets such as the environment (e.g. water resources and event monitoring).

What you’ll be doing

The installation, integration, maintenance, testing and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems across the Water Industry which includes:

  • Flow monitoring and pressure instrumentation within the Water and Wastewater networks (e.g. DMA Metering, Pressure Management schemes, Pumping Station discharge flowmeters, Event duration monitoring (EDM), etc.
  • Various types of analytical instrumentation within the Water and Wastewater Treatment settings (e.g. Total Dry Solids Meters, Borehole Level Monitoring, Water Quality monitoring, etc.)
  • Providing analytical instrumentation verification, calibration and remedial services within the Water and Wastewater settings.
  • Software interrogation, design and implementation, i.e. PLC program design, HMI and SCADA/DCS applications.
  • Working alongside our Systems Engineers, preparing and the review of technical and design documentation such as DERR, URS, FDS, SDS, FAT, SAT and O&M documentation.
  • Ensure software change management is adhered to.
  • Prepare information for customer’s reports as required.
  • Instrumentation, Control and Systems Engineering support to our water industry customers

What do we need from you?

  • To hold an NVQ Level 3 in an Electrical and/or Instrumentation & Control discipline with either a completed Apprenticeship (awarded by an approved body) or possession of the AM2 Qualification.
  • Further education engineering qualification, as a minimum a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA/HMI platforms e.g.: Aveva, Rockwell, Siemens, Iconics, Citec, and Schneider Electric.
  • Working knowledge of PLC Software Platforms e.g.: Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron and GE.
  • Working knowledge of communications network architectures including: Modbus, RS232/485, DH+, Profibus, industrial Ethernet/Fibre and other Fieldbus communication protocols.
  • To hold 18th Edition Wiring Regulations training certification.
  • To hold a full driver’s license (You will be provided with a Z-Tech van and fuel card).
  • Experience in Industrial Instrumentation & Control System Asset Installation, integration, maintenance, testing and commissioning.
  • Water Industry experience is desirable, but not essential.
  • The ability to adapt and respond to unforeseen events and act accordingly.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and a familiarity with the Internet in order to be self-sufficient with all manner of IT based tasks (Electrical Reports and Employee HR Services).
  • The ability to plan and coordinate effectively without supervision.

Have the ability to:

  • Use Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • The ability to use and interpret electrical schematics, P&ID’s, manuals, asset standards and other technical information to assist with Installations and remedial works
  • Working in accordance with the company and customer safe systems of work and permit to work systems.
  • Working Full time 40 hours p/week (Monday – Friday), but with the expectation of travelling to remote locations across the UK.
