Main Purpose of the Role
Working within our team delivering hydro turbine operations and maintenance, including fault finding, repairs, major component changes and troubleshooting. This role requires a proactive individual who can work within mechanical, electrical and civils environments and is capable of working in isolation and solving problems with an analytical approach.
Key Responsibilities
- You will carry out scheduled, unscheduled and proactive maintenance on hydro power stations, including fault finding, repairs, major component changes and troubleshooting, as well as providing a crucial out of hours breakdown service.
- You may be responsible for and assist with outage work and repairs.
- You will contribute to our aim of optimising performance and you will directly help us promote the benefits of hydro turbine technology.
- In this position you will be working in remote locations, in all weathers, using a variety of technical equipment. Therefore, you will need to demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety in all aspects of your work. Amongst others, your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking all required training.
- PLC and scada interrogation, fault finding and design improvements
- C&I, electrical and mechanical problem solving working alone or in small teams at remote locations with user manuals and intuition to resolve emergent and persistent issues.
- Cost/benefit decision making regarding replacement and refurbishment with regard to predictive maintenance.
- Suggesting and promoting modifications in the context of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Working with tools and specialist equipment stored in power stations and carried in a company supplied four wheel drive vehicle.
- Working in challenging environments within which you will manage and mitigate risk.
- Raising and progressing documents & management systems associated with the role such as Madison, PRAD and SAP.
- You will be qualified or will qualify to Technical Officer, Safety Controller and Safety Coordinator.
Knowledge & Skills
– Trained technician or C&I / mechanical / electrical engineer / qualified apprentice.
– Proactive, hands-on person who is looking to take embrace a wide range of career development opportunities and training we offer to our staff.
– Capable of working in isolation and solving problems with an analytical approach.
– Confident at planning your own workload.
– Competent in understanding all health, safety and environmental considerations.
– Committed to work efficiently within various scenarios including industry specialists, stakeholders, regulators, landlords.
– A large geographical area requires flexibility in terms of working hours and occasional overnights in hotel accommodation.
– Being part of a standby rota system requiring responses and occasional mobilisation, including at weekends.
– Flexible to support other sites and colleagues in Wales and England.
