This HVAC Design Engineer role is to join a global engineering business and be part of their building services team who are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects. Work is across a plethora of sectors including Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (eg Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Residential, Blue Light, Education, Transportation and Defence. You will be working with designers across the UK and internationally on projects that range from small net zero carbon housing developments to projects of significant and national scale.

This role will allow development of existing technical skills as well as providing potential to expand digital skills and project management. This practice is committed to developing ways of working using emerging Digital Technology and your work will be supported by research and innovation teams.

Responsibilities – HVAC Design Engineer

  • Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
  • Design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems – heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, etc.
  • Carry out (and managing of others), in the production of detailed calculations using a range of digital tools.
  • Preparing technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with the BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit. Engineers who can design straight to screen are encouraged.
  • Attending meetings with clients and contractors, carrying out site surveys, inspections and monitor site works.
  • Managing elements of project delivery and an understanding of budget costings.
  • Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.
  • Assist with technical development of junior staff.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related subjects.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards) with CIBSE or IMechE.
  • Good level of computer literacy in a range of digital tools including IES thermal modelling package, Revit, NBS and Microsoft packages.
  • Familiar with energy reduction methods and approaches to decarbonising new and existing buildings.
  • Understanding of energy and carbon related data capture and analytics.
  • Awareness of the principles of building physics
  • Competent in designing for measurement and verification, including experience of commissioning and post installation evaluation of performance.
