Head of Policy & Advocacy (Scotland)

At WWF Scotland we are seeking someone with a passion for our mission to see people and nature thrive to join us as Head of Policy and Advocacy and lead our policy and advocacy strategies in Scotland.
Our work in Scotland has a well-deserved reputation for effectiveness and innovation and has impact across the UK and internationally. As Head of Policy and Advocacy you will be a member of the senior management team and contribute to the leadership and direction of the organisation in Scotland. Day-to-day, you will develop, co-ordinate and deliver strategy, currently focused on agriculture and land use, nature protection as well as climate and energy issues. You will also provide high-level external advocacy and engagement on behalf of WWF with priority stakeholders including the Scottish Government, Parliament, other NGOs, funders, and business.
Leading a team of policy and public affairs experts, we will look to you to think creatively about how to secure advocacy successes, develop strategic policy and public affairs plans as well as manage budgets, and provide accurate monitoring, reporting, and evaluation. Important, will be the ability to ensure WWF Scotland’s policy is integrated with WWF-UK and WWF’s global network priorities. A key spokesperson for WWF in print and broadcast media, you will represent us at senior level in several key networks as well as provide guidance to senior level colleagues on policy issues.
To play your part in maximising our impact in Scotland, you will need significant experience of leading the development and delivery of policy and a strong understanding of government and politics, particularly in Scotland. You will also be used to representing an organisation in the media and securing funds for policy and project work too.
A consummate networker and influencer, a diplomat and persuader with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, you will excel at building relationships. You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to lead, manage, motivate, and develop people. Of course, you will be able to demonstrate a commitment to WWF’s values and core mission too.
