Head of Counselling

LOCATION: Manchester, Office Based SALARY: £54,000 to £60,000 +

This role would suit an experienced counselling professional with previous leadership

experience who is confident overseeing large teams, supporting managers, driving performance, and maintaining high clinical and operational standards within a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will oversee a sizeable counselling function, supporting Counselling Managers and counsellors while ensuring quality, consistency, efficiency, and strong operational delivery across the department. Responsibilities • Oversee the day-to-day running of the counselling department • Lead, support, and coach Counselling Managers • Monitor service quality, KPIs, and operational performance • Analyse trends and identify areas for improvement • Support performance management and action planning • Oversee complaints, escalations, and service concerns • Ensure safeguarding and risk procedures are consistently followed • Support recruitment, retention, and staff development • Conduct regular 1-1s and performance reviews • Work collaboratively with internal teams to improve service delivery • Maintain a small clinical caseload where appropriate

Requirements • BACP accredited , or actively working towards accreditation • Previous leadership or management

experience within counselling services • Strong communication and people management

skills • Comfortable working within a busy operational environment • Confident reviewing data and analysing performance metrics •

Experience within helpline, EAP, or high-volume counselling services is desirable
