We are looking for a qualified and experienced General Manager to take over the reigns here at 19 café bar.

We are a well established café in the heart of the city centre’s Northern Quarter. We have grown from strength to strength and are still continuing to grow. We have been established since 2017. We are looking for the right General Manager to take us to the next level of growth and help implement some exciting growth plans for 2024.

We are looking for a General Manager who can run the everyday trade and be fully involved on the floor to drive sales but have a good grip on all aspects of the business from important tasks, processes, KPI’s, compliance, recruitment, training to name a few (Please continue to read the full job description below to see if this could be you).

Job Title: General Manager

Job Summary:

The General Manager of a busy café is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the cafe’s operations, ensuring smooth functioning, and delivering exceptional customer service. They are responsible for managing a diverse team, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and profitability. The General Manager also plays a crucial role in developing and implementing business strategies to drive growth and maximise customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the café, including opening and closing procedures, staff scheduling, and ensuring optimal staffing levels.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene in all areas of the café which you will develop and manage with correct cleaning schedules, processes and planners to achieve this at all times.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, including ordering and receiving supplies, and ensuring efficient stock rotation.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food handling guidelines.
  • Implement and enforce operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Team Management and Development:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate a diverse team of café staff, including the assistant manager, supervisors, head chef , sous chef and all other kitchen staff including KP’s and Front of house staff.
  • Schedule staff shifts and manage payroll to ensure adequate coverage while controlling labour costs.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to employees.
  • Foster a positive work environment, encourage teamwork, and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise among staff members.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance staff skills and improve overall performance.

Customer Service:

  • Ensure a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for customers, providing exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement necessary improvements to enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regular customers, cultivating loyalty and customer retention.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the cafe’s budget, including revenue forecasting, cost control, and profitability analysis.
  • Monitor sales, expenses, and financial performance, implementing strategies to maximise revenue and minimise costs.
  • Analyse financial reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions.
  • Implement pricing strategies, promotions, and upselling techniques to drive sales and increase profitability.
  • Monitor and control card procedures, ensuring accuracy and security.

Marketing and Business Development:

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to attract new customers and increase brand visibility.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create and implement effective advertising campaigns, promotions, and social media initiatives.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, customer preferences, and potential business opportunities.
  • Explore partnerships and collaborations to expand the cafe’s reach and customer base.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a managerial role in the hospitality industry, preferably in a busy café or restaurant.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of food and beverage operations, including inventory management, health and safety regulations, and quality control.
  • Financial acumen and experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems, POS (Point of Sale) software, and other relevant technology.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
