A quick look at the role.

The position is responsible for the set-up, ongoing quality control, and analysis and reporting of direct effluent discharges from the HDPE3 and existing recycling plants. There may be occasional need to give advice and support to other sites in the Polymers business. The role requires environmental data to be collected for regulatory purposes and to ensure the achievement of legal compliance and the adoption of best practice.

It is a Monday – Friday position working 37.5 hours per week (the start and finish time can be reasonably flexible – AM to PM).

  • Ensure the effluent treatment plant is set-up and working optimally, understand the process and science behind the treatment and be alert to changes and rectify dosing issues, alerting maintenance in the event of a required intervention.
  • Champion the monitoring, reporting, and improvement of the effluent from the Redcar site.  Ensure that accurate assessments are taken and reported to site management, with involvement in future projects to upgrade treatment facilities.
  • Ensure that the analytical techniques are validated and comply with relevant industry standards and MCERTs.
  • Arrange contractors as required and supervise works undertaken, with responsibility for the arrangements of purchase orders, permitting, isolation procedures and integration compliance/validation.
  • Undertake environmental monitoring is to an agreed standard so as to comply with both internal and external requirements where required.
  • Collation of Environmental costs to provide to site management team with information regarding budgetary requirements and to assist in tracking costs where necessary.
  • Complete internal and external environmental and permit associated reports for submission to regulatory authorities. Completing these reports in agreed formats and in a timely manner ensures regulatory compliance where required.
  • Ensure that sampling, recording, analysis and recording of environmental monitoring requirements are undertaken as specified.

Requirements

  • A level – Relevant Subject
  • Degree or significant relevant experience in waste or environmental / scientific capacity
  • Intermediate Microsoft package IT skills in word, Excel and Outlook
  • Data interpretation
  • Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision.
