Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent,
Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon – Fri,
Salary: £30,000 – £44,870 (M1 – UPS2) Plus £2,500 lead allowance

Aurora Fairway School

We are looking to recruit an English Teacher with Literacy Lead to join our team at Fairway School in St Ives, Cambridge.

Aurora Fairway is part of the Aurora group. We are a bespoke secondary school that opened in September 2022. Our students are aged 11-16 year olds with a range of complex learning needs including social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication difficulties and autism. Key Duties:

  • To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment.
  • Be responsible for the high quality of teaching and learning of all students who are assigned to the post holder, having responsibility for their literacy skills, progress, welfare and outcomes.
  • Supervise the work of any support staff, who are assigned to work with the post holder’s students.
  • To have an up to date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework within which teachers work.
  • To take responsibility for implementing school policies and practice, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity.
  • Provide leadership across the school in literacy, to include:
    • monitoring quality and standards
    • leading on literacy focused interventions for all identified
    • leading on reading and writing across the school, being ambitious for all students.
    • contributing to school planning and self-evaluation with passion and focus
    • providing professional support to other teachers and support staff
    • advising the Head Teacher on appropriate resources and materials
    • leading appropriate professional development.
  • To implement the aims of the school.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

  • PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent teaching qualification in English and evidence of in-service training is essential.
  • Postgraduate diploma in SEN is desirable.
  • Experience of working in a special school environment and in particular with students with SEMH is desirable.
  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum to students with a wide range of needs from non-readers to students aiming for GCSE English is desirable.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of English within the national curriculum to support a range of students abilities and knowledge base.
  • Working knowledge of SEMH students with complex needs including ASD.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of autism and associated co-morbid conditions and how these can affect learning.
