Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Employment Advisor to join our North Tyneside Talking Therapies Service!

This role is fixed term until March 2025 with the possibility of an extension subject to the extension of DWP funding.

Some flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the requirements of service delivery and client needs.

About the role

As an Employment Advisor, you will provide skills-based interventions, information and practical support to help people retain employment, exchange employment for a more suitable role, return to employment from a period of sickness/absence from work and assist clients with accessing employment for the first tile or after a substantial period of absence from the labour market.

You will support employed people who are at risk of losing their job or are struggling at work by identifying needs and work with unemployed people to help plan a route into meaningful activity and employment.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with the North Tyneside Talking Therapies team to support employed people who are looking to re-enter the workplace after a period of sickness or maintain or adapt their current employment to ensure suitable employment options.
  • Support employed people who are at risk of losing their job or are struggling at work  by identifying needs and work with unemployed people to help plan a route into meaningful activity and employment.
  • Undertake new client appointments, as per the agreed KPIs, to meet contractual obligations.
  • Undertake employment assessment interviews with service users and reach out to other agencies and work-related training providers to help identify their employment support needs and regain employment.
  • Support service users to understand where to access opportunities, benefits systems and developments within provision to effectively support their mental health needs.
  • Prepare and support individuals where it is more appropriate for them to change their employment to explore careers more conducive to positive mental health.
  • Collaborate with employers and other departments  to ensure reasonable adjustments are made to an individual’s workplace  where necessary.
  • Maintain records of all employment related activity for each individual, ensuring that progress is monitored and health and employment support are fully integrated.

About you 

  • Demonstrable experience of working in mental health or social care sector
  • Demonstrable experience of providing advice, guidance and employment support to people with disabilities or other vulnerable groups
  • Demonstrable experience of working 1:1 with service users
  • Demonstrable experience of working with people with complex needs
  • Demonstrable experience of meeting KPI’s
  • Understanding of psychological therapies provision, employment law legislation, the local labour market and where to access opportunities
  • Understanding of the benefits systems and developments
