Detainee Custody Officers – Stansted

Purpose of role:

To work as part of a team to ensure that the welfare and care of the detainees and any dependent children being escorted is maintained to a consistently high standard, ensuring their moral and legal rights are observed and the constant care of their property is undertaken.

Principal duties & Responsibilities

*Escort detainees in full compliance with the Standard Operating Instructions regulations and guidelines as produced by Tascor and agreed by the UK Border Agency.
*Engender a culture of care and welfare for all detainees.
*Drive company vehicles as required, complying with statutory regulations and company policies and procedures. Driving will be a large part of the role.
*Carry out various types of searches including that of individuals and their possessions, vehicles and any locations where detainees are held.
*Strive to perform tasks set out, within the timescales as required by the UK Border Agency.
*Maintain effective communication links with the Duty Operations Manager with regards to the progress of the escort or any other appropriate matter.
*Use reasonable force, where required, using trained, contract approved methods of Control and Restraint in the event if an incident or emergency.
*Provide timely feedback of intelligence and operational issues to the Duty Operations Manager
*Record and communicate all requests and complaints made by detainees in strict conformance with Standard Operating Procedures and UK Border Agency guidelines.
*Escort detainees nationally and overseas where required.
*Work within major airports where required providing the highest standards of detainee welfare whilst retained in holding facilities.

Person specification for role:

Full UK Driving Licence
Right to work in the UK
Excellent standard of verbal and written English
Someone who is able to work flexibly to achieve the overall goals of the business
Demonstrates a high level of initiative and common sense
Ability to work well as part of a team
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Fully checkable 10 year work/educational history
Possesses a good level of fitness in order to fulfil the physical aspects of the role, for example, Control and RestraintThe sensitive nature of work carried out by the UK Border Agency means that security clearance is required for all posts. If selected for interview, candidates will be asked to complete a security questionnaire, which will explain the government’s vetting policy.
