Opportunity: Design Manager
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Design Manager within the Commercial construction sector, working on projects such as; Hospitals, Hotels, Leisure centres and Nursing homes.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design function for the Solihull office – “be the voice of design”.
Assist in the identification and allocation of design resource requirements in both preconstruction and delivery.
Support and advise Design Coordinators as appropriate.
To support the process of assessing, preparing (including post tender activities), validating, adjudication and final submission of tenders on time and to the required quality (working with the preconstruction teams).
Capable of acting in the pivotal role of “bid leader” on certain tenders.
To lead, manage and motivate design management staff and external consultants on projects.
Will be overseeing designs on numerous amounts of projects at once.
To manage the process of designing the solution(s) for the project in order to meet or exceed customer’s requirements (working with delivery teams).
To develop, assess and evaluate design solutions to identify contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities for value engineering, in order to minimise risk and maximise gross profit on contracts.
This is a “hand on” manager’s role, in both preconstruction and delivery but also “leading” on design for the office.
Individual:
Must have at least 10 years experience working as a Design Manager
Technical understanding of design matters including the legal and regulatory requirements of planning and Building Regulations.
Competency and knowledge in specialist areas including BREEAM, Part L compliance, Fire Strategy, Acoustic performance etc.
Knowledge of building services solutions and their impact on building structures.
Sound personal skills of listening, communication and collaborative working.
Proactively seek to gather information, processing and linking data, but also improving own knowledge.
