Salary: £36,000 – £56,400 per year

Data Scientist – Portsmouth / Hybrid – 1 Day a week on site 

My engineering and defence client is looking for 3 Data Scientists to join their growing team. Currently, at 4 Data Scientists, there are opportunities for 2 Data Scientists either post-degree or early – mid-career to join the team, and one Lead Data Scientist. You will be able to learn from senior team members and experts in the Data Science field, whilst working on innovative technology in which you can see the impact of your work.

You will be given well-formed tasks to work on and to deliver within the defence/engineering industry. You will have a background in data science and statistics and will be working on Time Series IoT style data as well as applications of deep learning and neural networks (although this will be taught.) These are large data lakes of real-world data (10s of terabytes) including time-series, text data and transactional records, you will be using innovative machine learning techniques to deliver novel insights to support our engineering teams. This role will enable you to put your curiosity and skills into play and allow you to work with various stakeholders via exposure to different areas of the business, all with the aim of maintaining the business position at the forefront of this technology.

Your skills and qualifications:

• Background in Statistics, Data Science, and Machine learning
• Experience using Python and its application to data science projects
• Experience working with time-series data
• Understand and ability to follow the data science lifecycle for a project (including problem definition, training, and validation, interpretation, and deployment)
• Experience working with a range of data sources (e.g. SQL, No-SQL, APIs, flat files)
• Good communication skills to be able to communicate with customers and internal stakeholders
• A degree in a relevant subject or experience of working in a similar role

Above all, you should demonstrate a curiosity for working with data, backed up with proven data science expertise. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are necessary to allow you to interact and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You should have the ability to distill complex ideas and opportunities into clear business questions and be able to translate them into tangible business benefits for functional leaders and SMEs without using technical language

You must be eligible for UK Security Clearance so will need to have spent 5 years living in the UK.

The role is paying between £36,000 – £56,400and £47,000 dependent on experience as well as a good benefits package

The role is based out of Portsmouth and you would need to be onsite 1 day a week in the office. The role is easily commutable from Southampton, Andover, Basingstoke, Brighton, Crawley and Sussex.
