As Craftsperson (Overhead Lines), you will carry out the maintenance, repair and inspection of the overhead network and 33kV towers within the license area, ensuring compliance with current SP Energy Networks policies and quality systems and that all work is delivered safely, within allocated timescales, to the correct specification and to budget.
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair and inspection of assets associated with the 33kV network, you will become part of a team that will carry out the maintenance, repair and inspection of 33kV towers, ensuring compliance with current SP Energy Networks policies and quality systems and that all work is delivered safely, within allocated timescales, to the correct specification and to budget.
What you’ll be doing
Responding to overhead lines work for construction, maintenance and fault repair activities, you will be required to complete operational switching of the network, including fault finding and testing up to 33kV.
Planning jobs, obtaining materials, vehicles and equipment, you will receive all safety documents, pre-vet jobs which includes risk assessments and liaison with landowners, undertake hands-on, short stick and long stick live line work, connection of generators and HGV driving where appropriate. Standby duties will also be required.
What you’ll bring
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic craftsperson with knowledge of high voltage electrical distribution networks. Ideally you will have experience of working on steel lattice towers, but this is not essential as training can be provided.
The successful candidate would need to demonstrate as a minimum:
- Qualified overhead lines craftsperson with appropriate suite of training and authorisations up to 33kV
- Full valid driving licence
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate expert overhead line and jointing skills, live line skills, generator connection experience and use of electrical testing equipment. You will be familiar with ScottishPower Safety Rules, use computer systems and be able to communicate with customers and colleagues whilst complying with all safety and environmental procedures. You are also required to hold a current driver’s licence.
