Salary: £48,000 – £54,000 per year

MAIN DUTIES

Responsible for estimating, organisation and running of contracts undertaken by Topbond PLC. This encompasses defining company policy and the procedures to implement it, amending those procedures as required. 

In the absence of the Contracts Manager this role is undertaken by the Contracts Director.

Specific responsibilities include:

Health and Safety – responsible for

  • Understanding the requirements of the Act and supporting Regulations and ensuring that these are observed.
  • Directing Managers that the Company Safety Policy is to be implemented at all times.
  • Coordinating the efforts of all parties on matters of health, safety and welfare.
  • Reporting to the Board on all matters of health, safety and welfare.
  • Ensuring that all levels of staff receive adequate and appropriate training.
  • Insisting that sound working practices are observed.
  • Making certain that in tendering, at planning stages and in the production processes allowance is made for adequate welfare facilities and equipment to avoid injury, damage and wastage.
  • Carrying out risk assessments to identify all hazardous activities and the risks associated with such activities and ensuring that such assessments are reviewed regularly.
  • Bringing to the attention in writing of those concerned, the significant risks identified as a result of any such assessments.
  • Ensuring that risk assessments are undertaken on any new or proposed activities or processes.
  • Reprimanding any member oft staff failing to discharge satisfactorily the responsibilities allocated to them.
  • Setting a personal example

Environment – responsible for

  • Encouraging and promoting best practice and sustaining continuous improvement in environmental performance
  • Understanding the requirements of current environmental legislation relevant to the company’s operations
  • Ensuring that the environmental effects of the company’s activities are assessed and taking all practicable steps to protect the environment

Quality – responsible for ensuring that all projects are undertaken in accordance with procedures laid down in Company ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 Quality systems. Specific duties include:

  • Ensuring the overall smooth running of the contracts to ensure that contracts are undertaken to agreed specification, programme and budget and coordinating activities to ensure best use of resources
  • Allocating staff to projects and ensuring that all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Preparation and checking of tenders and cost estimates.
  • Management of projects including allocation of resources, procurement, preparation of site documentation, cost control and dispute resolution
  • Allocating expenditure approval levels for subordinates and monitoring and approving relevant expenditures associated with the programme’s progression.
  • Meeting with clients and their representatives at regular intervals or when requested in response to specific incidents
  • Supervision of Topbond personnel including disciplinary matters. Resolution of site personnel and welfare issues when resolution at site manager level is incomplete
  • Responsibility for contract related activities, including RAMS, Programme, Deliverables, COSHH, compliance with legislation and standards, authorising all Contract related training, ensuring competent staff are used on the Contract
  • Maintaining and sustaining a “partnering” approach to the project, monitoring the relationship to ensure the associated stakeholders interests.
  • Developing and encouraging enthusiasm in all staff for the project and maintaining the goodwill and respect of the client.

REQUIREMENTS

HNC or higher in construction related subject

Minimum 5 years’ experience of construction industry

CSCS card

Full driving licence

Experience in senior management role

Understanding of health and safety issuesKnowledge of rail industry and its regulations
