Location: Portsmouth

A global organisation is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager to join their team initially on a six month contract basis.

Working within a complex engineering environment the Contract Environmental Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance and continuous improvement of the EHS management systems for the business under the direction of the Manufacturing Process Manager.

Other responsibilities include:

– To maintain legal compliance of ISO standards held on site, whilst ensuring all aspects of building management, machinery safety and protection of personal on site covering Security, Fire Safety, Emergency Response, Asbestos, Legionella, Noise, COSHH, Energy Management, Waste Management etc.
– Timely execution of housekeeping inspection programme to prevent, identify and correct unsafe working conditions and poor condition of equipment within the facility, whilst insuring that all equipment is legally inspected and safe to use.
– Timely execution of internal auditing programme for ISO Management systems. Whilst also ensuring procedures are updated in line with identified corrective actions.
– To provide EHS advice on CDM projects involving building refurbishment or new installations and relocation of equipment in accordance to all aspects of legal compliance.
– To identify, analyse and report on EHS incidents and ensure that effective robust corrective and preventative actions are identified and implemented i.e. Near Miss reporting, Accidents.
– To ensure that the Risk assessment & COSHH assessment review program is executed in a timely manner. To provide advice on risks and control measures that maybe required to assist the Risk Assessors during these processes.
– To investigate all major incidents on site and review OH referrals and advise corrective/preventative actions where necessary.
– To evaluate and effectively implement robust improvements identified by external audits to prevent re-occurrence and improve compliance – OHSAS18001, ISO14001, PHASE.
– To ensure that PPE is ordered and provided in a timely manner and to the right specification for the works undertaken.
– To deliver, manage, organise, maintain and continually improve the EHS training requirements of all personnel i.e. Statutory Training compliance, Awareness Training.
– Incident Controller for the facility in the event of an emergency situation, including liaison with the Fire/Police service.

In order to be considered for this position candidates need to hold excellent knowledge of EHS legal requirements. In addition to this candidates need to have experience working in industrial manufacturing environments and as such have knowledge of some of the following manufacturing processes from a Health and Safety perspective: Welding, CNC Machining, Polishing, NDT, Pressure Testing, Laboratories. Candidates should also hold NEBOSH OHSAS Certificate.
