Stafffinders are currently working with a fantastic company in Edinburgh who are looking to recruit a Communications & Public Affairs Coordinator on a permanent basis.
Duties include:
•Manage the production and development of their internal and external PR and communications activity such as the monthly membership communication from the Chair, regular social media updates via Twitter and Facebook pages, providing guidance, support, advice to staff and Officers on raising the awareness of our activities;
•Proactively produce approximately 20 press responses/releases over the year to highlight the company in Scotland’s activities and to reflect the outputs of the national campaign;
•Monitor and respond to coverage in the local/national media and GP magazines/journals;
•Provide effective line management and leadership to the Communications and Public Affairs team – 3 members of staff;
•Oversee and manage the work and output of the Communications and Public Affairs Team, including the efficient delivery of committees such as Scottish Council, Executive Board, patient group (P3), policy and public affairs activity, campaigns and all other team related activity;
•Oversee the preparation of key policy documents (approximately 4 key policy areas per annum) and consultations
•Working closely with the Web Content Editor, play a key role as the web editor by managing the content of thecompany’s presence and webpage and ensuring regular review and update of the website are undertaken by all teams (at least quarterly);
•Efficiently compile and manage budgets for allocated projects and activities up to £20K, ensuring accurate planning of project activity is accounted for;
•Authorisation of invoices within own area of responsibility, up to £500;
•Provide advice and support to 6 Officers, Managers on policy and public affairs areas, organising and participating in external stakeholder meetings where relevant;
•Coordinate and provide a range of operational reports to the Manager including activity reports to Scottish Council (4 meetings per year), Executive Board (5 meetings per year) and regular activity reports to UK meetings as required;
•Participate in weekly and monthly internal meetings to share with colleagues and officers updates on Scotland’s campaign, communications and policy activities;
•Oversee the organisation of approximately 4 PR events/dinners a year on behalf of the Chair and Manager
The ideal Candidate
•Educated to degree level or equivalent or relevant professional qualification or experience.
•Knowledge of professional organisations and their workings;
•Demonstrable experience in a /communications and corporate affairs role;
•Good understanding of health agenda and patient issues;
•Experience of writing policy reports, news articles and other promotional materials;
•Good understanding of budget setting and management;
•Staff/team management experience.
•Excellent standards of numeracy and literacy;
•Excellent communication skills with personnel at all levels;
•Efficient keyboard skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Internet Explorer;
•Excellent drafting/editing skills;
•Knowledge of web content management;
•Adaptability and flexibility to work in a high change environment and ability to adopt different approaches depending on the nature of the project/initiative;
•Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload in an efficient and proactive manner;
•Able to work to tight deadlines;
•Self-confidence;
•Able to handle complex and delicate situations, requiring tact, diplomacy and tenacity;
•Able to appropriately promote an organisation/ story/message to a wide audience;
•An excellent team player;
•An understanding of budget setting and administration.
