Here’s what you’ll be doing

City Energy Solutions (CES) is a rapidly growing business. We generate electricity and provide heat directly to customers homes from our energy centres via our district heating networks. CES is at an exciting and important time in its development, and we are looking for people with enthusiasm and energy to help us build a safe and sustainable business for the future.

Within this role you’ll manage and be responsible for the professional execution of highly complex interactive customer contracts for City Energy Solutions (CES) through the application of industry leading and commercial acumen in the District Heating and Energy Solutions sectors.

Your purpose is to manage the end to end development of the relevant bespoke contracts providing commercial and contractual direction as well as market experience to leverage the most commercially advantageous position for E.ON. In addition you will bring legal expertise to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.

This includes shaping and building the models, frameworks and tools used to evaluate and contractually close bids ensuring alignment with the businesses commercial strategy and

financial objectives.

You will work collaboratively with E.ON UK Legal, Tax, Treasury and Finance teams where required so great communication skills are a must.

What we need from you

  • Extensive experience of working in a fast paced legal, commercial and contractual environment leading on the development and negotiation of complex energy contracts.
  • Solid understanding of contractual documents, especially in the context of solutions projects, supported by practical experience in this field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, focusing on attention to detail and the ability to write contracts clearly and concisely, editing for clarity, as needed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels, both internal and external.
  • The ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and influence decisions.
  • Ability to work with standard documentation and include any bespoke elements to ensure the commercial elements of each project are correctly documented to protect E. ON from unnecessary ambiguity and risk exposure, both from the perspective of the contractor and the employer (customer).
  • A keen interest in working in an efficient way and improving processes by looking for opportunities to utilise standard documents and technological solutions and making improvements from lessons learnt.

It would be great if you have

  • Experience of consulting and transformation.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (or otherwise suitably experienced) in a legal/finance/business discipline.
  • A good understanding of capital/construction projects.
  • An understanding of the energy industry.
  • An understanding of Combined Heat and Power, district heating schemes, alternative heating technologies and ESCO arrangements.
  • An understanding of contract novation.
