We are working on behalf of Fife Migrants Forum (FMF) to fill this vacancy.
Fife Migrants Forum (FMF) is a registered Scottish charity serving as an information discovery point, primarily, but not exclusively, to members from migrant and ethnic minority communities in Fife. FMF provides the following services: a multilingual advice and information service, advocacy and casework support, employability support, IT support and personal development opportunities. FMF also works in collaboration with mainstream service providers and other third sector organisations to provide tailored support to our client groups.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Caseworker to join this expanding organization to provide a multi-lingual and culturally sensitive information and advice to members from migrant and minority ethnic communities in Fife with issues such as: housing, debt, employability, welfare benefits and rights, community safety and other matters.
As a Caseworker your duties will be to:
• Promote awareness of project to people from migrant and minority ethnic communities as well as local communities.
• Promote awareness of the company to other Service Providers through partnership work.
• Promote and uphold the Forum`s Code of Conduct, Equality and Diversity Polices and all other relevant policies and procedures, taking particular responsibility for Health and Safety across all areas.
• Take a person centred approach in assisting migrant workers and minority ethnic communities to access the services and information in making the transition to life in Fife.
• Signpost migrant workers and minority ethnic communities to other agencies where appropriate.
• Obtain relevant information in response to queries and feed this back to clients.
• Deal with regular visits, telephone and email queries from clients.
• Support other members of the staff and take part in all running projects.
• Help with record-keeping and general administrative duties.
• Maintain accurate records of your work.
• Develop and maintain a data base of relevant organisations and contacts.
• Assist with preparation of reports.
An ideal Caseworker will hold the following skills and experiences:
• Previous professional work experience.
• Fluent in English, Polish and/or Russian / other languages
• Experience within a migrant centre/migrant community setting.
• High standard of education and/or relevant experience.
• Be able to undertake a diagnostic interview and provide basic information and advice.
• Be able to manage a caseload and be a key point of contact for clients.
• Understanding of and empathy for clients` situations, with a particular focus on cultural and language barrier issues.
• The ability to discuss sensitive issues with a range of clients and provide options and choices that lead to positive solutions.
• Basic negotiating skills, including the ability to competently advocate on a client`s behalf.
• Ability to communicate and engage with a range of professionals and local agencies.
• Understand principles of confidentiality.
• Understanding of issues related to Welfare Reform, employability, debt and/or housing.
You will be working 30 hours per week. This is a 15 month fixed term contract.
In return you will receive a Salary: £26,000per year, 28 days holiday per year pro-rata.
This position is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.
