Border Force Officer

UK Border Force is a law enforcement organisation with primary responsibility for immigration and customs matters at the border. We are currently looking to recruit Border Force Officers based at Gatwick.

This is an opportunity to work in a unique role with a high level of responsibility. Keeping the United Kingdom’s border safe calls for exceptional judgement, sharp perception and strong communication skills. Operating at the second largest international airport in the UK, these roles ensure that the border is protected at all times against both illegal immigration and customs activity. Each day will bring new challenges and therefore we are looking for highly motivated individuals who enjoy overcoming obstacles to deliver exceptional customer service as part of a world class team. Duties include:

Operating the primary control area by checking all passengers arriving to the UK for immigration control purposes. This will involve making decisions based on the immigration rules for those seeking to enter the UK.
Carrying out in-depth interviews to establish immigration status.
Profiling people, searching goods and vehicles for border offences and referrals as required. Also conducting investigations of offences arising from the importation/exportation of prohibited and restricted goods.
Reporting and presenting the outcome of any investigation as a witness in court when required.
Supporting general aviation operations, including deployment across sites other than your normal location.
Conducting the search of persons and the supervision of arrested persons, also assisting with the search of premises or vehicles.These posts can be physically demanding and require a high level of fitness and flexibility to meet changing demands.

After all, your actions will leave an impression not just of the organisation but of the country as a whole. To be eligible to apply you must have:

A minimum degree qualification at 2:2; or
Two ‘A’ levels at grade C or above together with significant investigatory experience, gained in either a military or law enforcement environment. Experience will need to include conducting interviews in order to obtain evidence as well as analysing evidence and making sound decisions based upon evidence obtained in a rules based environment.The role involves working a full range of shifts and on occasions deploying to a variety of locations so flexibility is required.

You must also be a UK National and hold a full UK driving licence.
