Assistant Web Editor / Business Writer

Location: Hove

Salary: £24,000 – £26,400 DOE

A newly-created position within the content team of Crunch, the UK’s fastest-growing accountancy firm. Ideal for a journalist looking to make the move into brand content, or a step up for an established in-house writer.

We are looking for an experienced candidate who is able to put their stamp on content they produce, and write with authority on complex and sometimes controversial subjects. Experience writing about freelancing, small businesses, finance, accounting and/or legislative issues would be highly beneficial.

Working under an experienced Editor, with support from one of the best PR teams in the country, this is a great opportunity to further a writing career and publish articles in some of the UK’s most respected outlets.

Assistant Web Editor / Business Writer Responsibilities:

  • General input into the Crunch content and social media strategy
  • Plan, create and edit accurate and engaging copy for a variety of publications
  • Ensure 100% accuracy of written advice given by Crunch
  • Site management (WordPress) and adherence to editorial calendars
  • Ad-hoc duties including short-deadline opinion pieces, press release drafting and advertising copy

Person Specification

Essential experience:

  • A passion for writing
  • The ability to produce genuinely interesting and informative copy on often fairly dull subjects
  • A strong knowledge of online marketing is essential
  • The ability to source, fact-check and publish accurate articles with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of small businesses and freelancers and the financial issues they face
  • Experience with modern web technologies including WordPress, Google Apps, and social networks.
  • An active presence on social networks including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Ideally you maintain your own blog
  • Experience writing for trade press and / or newspapers

Advantageous experience:

  • Knowledge of small business accountancy and tax
  • Experience working in a fast-moving technology company
  • Knowledge of advanced social analytics and monitoring packages
  • General technical know-how (e.g. link tagging and tracking, Google Analytics, WordPress, image editing)
  • Knowledge of PR industry
  • Network of contacts
