Summary

Our client is looking for an Assistant Project Engineer to join the company’s Transport Division, working within the Trackwork department on a major tram project. This would be an ideal opportunity for a student wanting a year’s placement during their university course. The candidate would need to be studying a construction related degree, with an interest in working within the rail sector.

Principal duties and responsibilites

You will be working alongside the Project Engineer on a variety of tasks, including; Monitoring the construction progress and updating the weekly reports; Material audits and identifying critical items; Updating work method statements and risk assessment; Providing general Project Management assistance. To assist the Construction Team in completing the works for track construction by recording progress and updating weekly reports; Assisting with BoQ with an aim of zero stoppages due to materials; Ensuring work is undertaken safely with the correct briefings and paperwork; Assisting with the planning department to update the main programme. To assist the Track Engineers and Field Managers in making sure that: All upstream activities are duly planned and achieved, completing weekly reports as instructed to include such items as, works progress, Quality Control, Incidents related to resources (staff, equipment) and safety and environment.

Candidate requirements

The ideal candidate will have a minimum HND/BSc (Hons) in a Construction related degree from a recognised university, knowledge of concrete and construction techniques, rail – principles and construction. Able to read design drawings, appreciation of track design, geometrical elements, track configuration. Experience with Word and Excel. A good level of communication skills both written and verbal.
