Assistant Buyer

Salary: £30,000 per year

Growing Commercial Construction Services company are seeking an Assistant Buyer – up to £25,000, excellent career progression!

Due to the continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Assistant Buyer/Purchasing Assistant for a growing construction and construction services business. This brand new role will progress into a Purchasing Manager/Buyer role for this established company that has seen significant growth over the last 12 months, and due to the growth of the business they are in need of a candidate who can take responsibility for all the purchasing and buying of raw materials and stock for the company.

You will work closely with Contracts Managers who deal with both reactive work and planned, long term contracts and take responsibility for:-

* Managing existing trade/supplier accounts

* Developing new supplier accounts

* Seek to achieve best prices for orders

* Ordering all construction material including screws, hammers, small hand tools, paint, PPE, workwear, cladding material, roofing material, all construction type materials, fixings, and taking responsibility for ordering plant hire machinery including cherry pickers

* Liaising with suppliers on a regular basis

* Streamlining and implementation purchasing processes

* Looking at costings and putting together price lists

* Keeping in regular contact with Contract Managers so that orders of materials are done on time for projects to go ahead

* Assisting with purchasing stock for the storeroom and all office consumables and stationary

* Monitoring supplier performance and sourcing new suppliers when existing ones are under performing

* Provide regular updates to internal colleagues

* Full training will be provided, and once the training is out of the way, this is an opportunity to make the role your own and work with complete autonomy

To apply you will:-

* Ideally have some recent buying/purchasing experience

* Ideally worked within a construction/engineering/trades/labour environment (not essential)

* Good communication skills

* Ability to work to deadlines

* Excellent numeracy skills

* Good knowledge of MS Excel

* Ideally you will have your CIPS qualification or working towards this (not essential)

* We will consider ex Trades candidates who have some raw materials purchasing experience and computer literacy
