Apprentice Technician

Salary: £26,000 per year

As an apprentice you will learn the ropes by shadowing and assisting our removal technicians, surveyors, consultants and office staff. The primary role will be assisting the technicians to help build containment, prepare control measures abs ensure that hazardous materials are removed to high standards.

Our staff will train you up to become a fully capable asbestos technician as with additional training available such as cherry pickers, CSCS etc for those that show enthusiasm.

As part of your apprenticeship, you will become proficient in the following skills

• Interpret the given information relating to the work and resources when installing and removing licensed asbestos enclosure or containment areas
• Maintain safe working practices when installing and removing licensed asbestos enclosure or containment areas
• Select the required quantity and quality of resources for the methods of work to install and remove licensed asbestos enclosure or containment areas
• Minimise the risk of damage to the work and surrounding area when installing and removing licensed asbestos enclosure or containment areas
• Complete the work within the allocated time when installing and removing licensed asbestos enclosure or containment areas
• Interpret the given information relating to the work and resources when stripping and removing licensed asbestos
• Maintain safe working practices when stripping and removing licensed asbestos from a variety of environments including domestic, commercial and industrial properties.
• Select the required quantity and quality of resources for the methods of work to strip and remove licensed asbestos
• Minimise the risk of damage to the work and surrounding area when stripping and removing licensed asbestos
• Complete the work within the allocated time when stripping and removing licensed asbestos
• Comply with the given contract information to strip and remove licensed asbestos materials to the required specification
• Communicate with others to establish productive work practices
• Follow organisational procedures to plan the sequence of work
• Maintain relevant records in accordance with the organisational procedures:
• Select the required quantity and quality of resources for the methods of work to move, handle and/or store occupational resources
• Prevent the risk of damage to occupational resources and surrounding environment when moving, handling and/or storing resources
• Complete the work within the allocated time when moving, handling and/or storing resources
• Move, handle and/or store resources in a timely manner and within allocated time frames.

Future Prospects

The candidate can go onto a variety of occupations within the asbestos industry depending upon what training they undertake and which roles they prefer. These include:
• Removal Technician circa 28-32k p/a
• Removal Supervisor circa 30-35k p/a
• Contracts Manager circa 35-45k p/a
• Asbestos Surveyor circa 25-30k p/a
• Asbestos Analyst circa 22-28k p/a

Employer Description

Fibre Safe Ltd are a Birkenhead based asbestos solutions provider – we specialise in asbestos removal, asbestos surveys and asbestos training.

Provided

The candidate will be trained in non licensed asbestos removal works and will shadow a senior technician form the outset. They will never be left to work alone.

Skills Required

No skills are required, however due to some of the environments in which we work, a level headed and mature minded would be beneficial.

Personal Qualities

Candidates must be physically fit and willing to take health and safety very seriously. The ideal candidate should be a problem solver and methodical in their approach to work. A pleasant manner and good communication skills are essential as they will be dealing with everybody from members of the public to managing directors on a daily basis. Please note that the candidate must be used to early morning as we start at 07:30 in the yard and not turning in would have a detrimental safety impact on the technician working with the apprentice. The candidate must also be willing to work outside, sometimes at height and sometimes in inhospitable environments. The job can challenge you, but will also open up many doors from within the industry and will take you to many places around the North West that members of the General Public will never get to see.

No qualifications are required, and job specific training will be undertaken should the candidate be taken on full time or on an apprenticeship
