JOB BRIEF

We are looking for an Anaesthesiologist to join our team. This person will provide patients with high-quality and painless care during surgical procedures. Anaesthesiologists play a key role in taking care of patients and ensuring patients receive the care they need throughout a procedure.

Anaesthesiologist responsibilities include administering and managing anaesthesia as part of the process before, during and after surgery. They also evaluate patients and their medical history prior to surgery, including prescription medicine, over-the-counter medicine and herbal supplements.

Ultimately, you will administer, monitor and record the type and amount of anaesthesia used during the procedure. You will collaborate with other physicians for patients that require at-home pain management.

 

Responsibilities

Examine patients to ensure they are prepared for surgery.

Monitor vital signs during surgery.

Manage medical problems if they occur during surgery.

Making cooperative decisions that are in the best interests of the patient.

Monitor recovery.

Determine when a patient has recovered from the effects of anaesthesia.

Create recovery plans .

Consult with other doctors on patient care.

Decide when a patient is ready to be discharged or be moved to a specific room.

Meeting with patients before medical procedures to discuss their medical history and lifestyle.

Assessing patients’ conditions through analysis of medical history.

Explaining to patients the surgical process.

Administering anaesthesia and monitoring patient vital signs during medical and surgical procedures, and making appropriate adjustments in anaesthesia to ensure patient comfort.

Monitoring patient vital signs and pain management after surgical and medical procedures to ensure patient comfort.

Maintaining patient records relating to their procedures and the type and amounts of medications given.

 

Requirements and skills

Proven work experience as an Anaesthesiologist or similar role.

MD or DO qualification.

Board Certified/Board Eligible.

Be able to stand for long periods of time, walking long distances, lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling and pushing.

The ability to use your judgement and make decisions.

Knowledge of medicine.

The ability to work well with your hands.

Thinking and reasoning skills.

To be thorough and pay attention to detail.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

The ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure.

Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

To be able to use a computer and the main software packages competently.

Working environment

You could work in an NHS or private hospital.

Your working environment may be physically and emotionally demanding.

You may need to wear a uniform.
