Algorithm Developer (Python, R, Matlab, C++)
This role is working for a truly exciting scientific software company in Oxford who are bridging the gap between Science and Big Data analytics. This role will be joining a fairly new team (within a fairly new company!) who are working with some of the coolest technologies from the Open Source, Big Data market – processing, analysing and working with huge datasets from the scientific domain. The company are doing extremely well at the moment and this is an opportunity to not only work with some hugely exciting technologies and datasets but also be a big part of fast-growth, dynamic and meritocratic company.
Role and Responsibilities:
* Work as part of an exciting new team in the company who are using the latest and greatest technologies from the Big Data / Open Source market to analyse and solve problems in the scientific domain
* Help to create the platforms responsible for receiving, analysing, storing and presenting huge data sets
* Be responsible for the transitioning the platform and the data science/analytics from a purely ‘scientific research’ background into commercially viable insights
* Help to research and prototype the best technologies
* Work closely with algorithmic developers and researchers to derive insight from huge datasets
* Help to develop the extraction and analysis techniques using a variety of computing methodologies and languages (e.g. Automation, algorithm development, Python, C++, MongoDB, JVM languages…)
* Add to the ethos of a vibrant software start-up with innovation, hard-work and a true passion for technology
* Work with complex scientific problems which will impact real-world events, helping to create simple solutions for extremely challenging problems.
Skills Required:
* Advanced level skills in combining complex mathematics with software development/manipulation
* Strong software programming skills from a Big Data or Open source background (Python, C++, Java, Scala, Hadoop, Cassandra, MongoDB, JavaScript, D3, etc.)
* Strong experience of a wide variety of data science principles; applied statistics, DSP / Digital Signal Processing, data analysis, data modelling, algorithmic development etc.
* Strong skills in symbolic mathematics / numerical computing software e.g. R, Matlab, Octave, Accumulo, Mathematica etc.
* Computer Science knowledge (algorithms, distributed systems, low latency, concurrency, graph & string theory, machine learning, big-O notation etc.)
* Have commercial experience of working with extremely large datasets
* An excellent academic track record with a BSc minimum (2.1 or above) in a computing, scientific, mathematical or engineering discipline. MScs and PhDs preferred.
* Excellent communication skills
