The Opportunity

Salary: £24,294 to £24,702 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed term or Secondment until 31 March 2025

Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week

Location: County Hall, Chichester and hybrid working from home

The position of Administrator-Public Health will be within the Public Health Directorate at West Sussex County Council (WSCC) working closely with colleagues within the Business Assurance Team and across the Public Health Directorate portfolios.

You will be responsible for providing a full fast-paced and flexible, first class administrative support service. You will be exposed to confidential and highly sensitive information and will be expected to work within relevant legislative and policy frameworks.

The work environment is friendly and supportive, and you will be valued and an integral part of the Team as you support the delivery of services to a wide range of workstream activities as well as helping to implement improvement programmes.

You will handle direct queries from across the Directorate and the partners/stakeholders with which the Directorate has regular engagement. The work will be varied and will include, by way of example: organising, preparing for, co-ordinating and supporting meetings; preparing and ensuring access to documents for meetings; supporting diary management; note taking specific meetings for which alternative recording technologies are inappropriate.

As our Public Health Administrator, you shall provide support to the Business Assurance Manager to ensure appropriate business support functions are in place to provide compliance with corporate policies, procedures and processes.

What experience and skills are we looking for?

  • You will need to be able to work independently, confidently, flexibly and in close partnership with others, both externally and within the Directorate and wider organisation.
  • You will need to be able to balance priorities and deadlines as well as responding to/redirecting enquiries, using your initiative to deal with unexpected problems and situations.
  • You will need excellent administration and organisational skills with a strong customer service ethic and a “can do” attitude.
  • You will need to be proficient in a range of IT skills including Word and Excel. You will need to be effective in planning and organising your work to meet set targets.
  • You will need to use your great communication skills to liaise effectively with a range of customers and colleagues whilst operating under direction in a busy and fast-moving working environment where there are many changing priorities and demands.
