PURPOSE OF ROLE
To manage waste and recycling collection activities, ensuring the health and safety of employees and delivery of quality services to residents and businesses.
To monitor performance and liaise with client officers, colleagues and other stakeholders to ensure customer and client satisfaction
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for the day to day performance of the waste and recycling collection provided under a local authority contract, and the resources involved in the activities.
2. Liaising closely with support services, management and client officers to ensure reliable, quality service performance, including close liaison with the Council fleet O-licence holder, workshop manager and the commissioning client’s team of monitoring officers.
3. Managing the H&S of employees and public under an agreed H&S Policy framework, including the provision of relevant training, delivery of regular toolbox talks and review of applicable risk assessments.
4. Acting as delegate for senior management from time to time when required, in various forums internally and externally.
5. To ensure compliance with O-licence requirements, including driver licence checks, vehicle daily checks, driver logbooks, site inspections and related practical activities.
6. To make recommendations for increasing service efficiency, including balancing or rescheduling collection rounds for example and the scheduling of new collection services as properties are developed within the local authority.
7. To lead a team of six collection supervisors to effectively manage a large operational workforce of 150, providing support, advice and mentoring as required.
8. To collect relevant data and information to report performance to senior management, employees and stakeholders as required and on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
9. To oversee a fleet of 48 HGVs and to develop the comprehensive use of Bartec Collective in cab information system across the workforce to facilitate real time reporting and agreed contractual outcomes.
10. To assist the business in developing a new commercial waste collections service by managing the day to day collections activities for new and existing customers.
