This is an exciting opportunity for a PR and Policy Manager to work for The British Geriatrics Society, a professional membership association specialising in health care of older people.
Public Relations and Policy Manager
Location: Central London
Hours: Full time
Salary: £45,000 – £48,000 depending on experience, plus 11% pension contribution
The Public Relations and Policy Manager will need to be comfortable working relatively independently for a small organisation. They will be responsible for raising the profile of the BGS and its key concerns amongst the media, policy makers, stakeholders and the general public. They will advocate for the specialty of geriatric medicine and develop and communicate the BGSs policy positions on a wide range of health and social care issues.
This is a varied role, which will be ideal for a passionate PR professional.
The key tasks will include:
* Planning media campaigns to support policy objectives
* Preparing and distributing press releases and press statements
* Promoting research published in Age & Ageing
* Seeking media coverage opportunities to promote case studies of good practice
* Establishing and maintaining links with key journalists
* Responding to press and media queries
* Develop the association’s social media presence in liaison with the Digital Media Editor.
* Work with the Chief Executive and officers to prepare policy position statements and briefing documents on a range of key topics.
* Organise and attend meetings with parliamentarians, civil servants and other policy influencers and stakeholders, including other specialist medical societies and charities, in order to build relationships and promote their views.
Applicants will need to demonstrate experience of working in a similar role, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to write good quality copy as well as knowledge of parliamentary processes/ proceedings covering the whole of the UK.
