£14.87 per hour PAYE

Our client is looking for an experienced Homeless Officer.
To interview and advise applicants attending the office by appointment with housing
difficulties. To advise on all available options to prevent loss of existing accommodation or for re-housing e.g. private rented sector, referral to support agencies. To deal with
enquiries from applicants, landlords, social workers and social workers etc.
To work in a person centred way enabling the customer to identify and undertake all
reasonable steps to prevent loss of existing accommodation or to secure re-housing.
To engage and motivate customers to identify issues / factors causing or contributing to
their homeless / potentially homeless status and to refer them to appropriate agencies for
specialist intervention and / or support e.g. Shelter, CAB, Welfare Rights, Supporting
People Pathway etc.
To share responsibility for delivering a housing – homelessness prevention “drop in”
surgery using a triage approach to prioritise customers presenting issues and arrange for
an appointment for a more in depth interview if required; or to resolve matters there and
then if they are simple enough to be sorted within circa ten minutes.
To share responsibility for applying the ‘triage approach’ in dealing with customer telephone enquiries i.e. sorting a query there and then if can be achieved within a relatively short period of time or if not to offer the customer an appointment for a longer interview.
To recognise where households may qualify for assistance under homelessness legislation and seek advice from colleagues / management on next steps.
To advise and signpost on a range of other functions e.g. private rented sector, shared and home ownership, benefits, debt management, repairs and adaptations, health and social care and work and training.
To liaise with officers in the homelessness, lettings and support teams on the provisions
and management temporary and permanent accommodation.
To assist households with temporary accommodation issues.
To liaise with landlords, financial institutions, families etc to try and prevent homelessness.
