Salary: £30,000 – £36,000 per year
The role:
The CNC Estimator will be the link between the rapid prototyping Projects and CNC teams and will determine whether a part is suitable for manufacture using our in-house CNC capabilities and providing costs accordingly.
Key responsibilities:
- Technical assessment of quotation requests against suitability for manufacture with in-house CNC capability
- Providing technical support and advice to the prototyping Project Managers
- Creation of quotations for cost and lead time. This will include material pricing, assessment of resource capacity and advising on standard lead times. Resource capacity may involve CAM programming, machine route and estimated run time as well as finishing.
- Controlling outside vendors, when acting in support of in-house manufactured parts. This will include platers, anodisers and painters and may require turning, EDM or spark erosion services
Experience and qualities:
- Manufacturing background in a machining environment.
- Good understanding of materials for CNC
- Good comprehension of metal cutting techniques, capabilities and limitations (primarily 3-axis, 5-axis milling, turning and finishing
- Ability to interrogate and interpret 2D drawings.
- Excellent communication skills
The standard hours of work are 7 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday with a 30-minute lunch break. This equates to a 37½-hour week.
