1st Line Support Engineer – IT Department

Job Role: 1st Line Support Engineer

Salary:£21,600 – £24,000 DOE

Location: Manchester City Centre

Hours: Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:30 (Also expected to work x1 late shift details tbc)

The Role:

  • Provide first line technical support; answering support queries via phone, email and in person.
  • To maintain a high degree of customer service for all support queries and to take ownership of user problems and be pro-active when dealing with user issues;
  • Monitor and deal with all calls in the call logging system, escalating them to the 2nd and 3rd line support team where necessary
  • Support users in the use of computer equipment and associated peripherals and Microsoft Office applications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Escalating IT issues to the IT manager where necessary
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical issues
  • Undertaking small- to medium-sized IT projects as instructed by the support manager
  • Providing desktop support
  • Setting up and configuring new laptops and desktops
  • Installing authorised software to laptops and desktops
  • Ensuring security and upgrades are applied to desktops and laptops and kept up to date
  • Antivirus installation to all desktops and laptops
  • Fault finding to laptops and desktops
  • Reporting faults and maintaining logs on desktops and laptops
  • Completing internal user moves including phones
  • Patching of network and phones
  • Ensuring all logs for equipment and users are maintained
  • Exchange server mailbox maintenance including archiving mailboxes
  • Setting up new users and disabling expired accounts in accordance with HR requirements

Skills Needed:

Window XP/Windows 7

Microsoft Exchange 2010

Anti-Virus Software

Proficient in hardware/Software maintenance

Printer Support

Customer facing skills
