We are working with a leading employer who are looking for an Accountancy Manager to oversee and manage a recent acquisition within their business.

This is a new position due to recent growth in our SME Accountancy Team. You will be responsible for managing and developing a team of accountants and juniors who will be looking after a portfolio of SMEs, OMBs and high net worth individuals. You will need to be self motivated and ready to take a team forward and grow the SME accounting services area of the business. This is a key role in an ambitious fast moving and growing business.

  • Managing a portfolio of SMEs, OMBs and high net worth individual clients.
  • Line management of a team of accountants whose roles vary from managing a portfolio of clients, preparing VAT returns, annual accounts and personal tax returns.
  • Continuing the current growth in client numbers through excellent service and referrals.
  • Reviewing the department’s processes on a continuous basis and implementing efficiencies and improvements, whilst maintaining adequate documentation.
  • Leadership and management of 5+ staff of varying disciplines and capability, alongside coaching and development, through the use of objectives and appraisals.
  • Resource and capacity planning against key performance indicators, and to strict timescales ensuring capacity and suitable technical capability.
  • Owning the training plan for the team, maintaining its effectiveness.
  • Working closely with your fellow managers to create a cooperative environment where staff can flourish and grow their careers.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Experience of working in a fast paced practice dealing with large volumes of small businesses.
  • Technically strong and comfortable reviewing a large volume of accounts, SATRs and management accounts.
  • Skilled at managing and developing teams of 3+.
  • Hands on, highly organised with a commitment to the customer, quality and deadlines.
  • Able to resource plan and motivate teams to achieve targets and deadlines.
  • Defining and reporting essential operational measures.
  • Strong technical knowledge in areas of company tax, VAT, accountancy processes.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and basic understanding of accounting practice software preferably IRIS.
