The c30-strong Activities Department caters for a wide range of educational and vocational needs for the 700 prisoners. The Academy team focus on delivering courses designed to raise prisoners self-esteem and employability skills. Reporting to the learning Unit Manager the role is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measure.
You will be required to lead on the provision and promotion of a quality learning service to access the curriculum and develop capacity to succeed in life.
Package description
c£39,600 per annum plus excellent benefits (including free meals and parking, group discount schemes and pension)
Evening and weekend work will be required.
Main responsibilities
- Ensurestaff complement meets PA and operational requirements, liaising with relevant departments where necessary
- Monitor and manage all direct line reports to meet their performance and contractual obligations
- Lead and co-ordination of additional delivery / events, liaising with external partners where appropriate
- Lead and provide support to create and develop lesson plans and learning materials / methods to meet the needs of learners
- Oversee the internal quality assurance / internal verification procedures to meet the required standards of relevant awarding bodies
- Providing professional support, guidance and coaching to the learning team as required
- Provide operational cover by delivering classes to prisoners
Ideal candidate
Experience required:
- Qualified to SCQF level 9 in a teaching / training or management discipline
- Experience of managing a diverse team within a learning environment
- Experience and knowledge of sound classroom management skills and engaging reluctant learners
- Experience of overseeing the development of curriculum design to meet a variety of needs
- Experience and knowledge of carrying out quality assurance to meet national awarding body standards
- Scottish Prison Custody Officer accreditation, or willingness to work towards
