Accountant Role Profile

Overall responsibilities: The Assistant Accountant will assist the Client Finance team with financial accounting and reporting for a specified portfolio of clients.

Reporting Line(s)

  • The Assistant Accountant reports to a Financial Controller or directly to a Client Manager (depending on team structure).

Specific Responsibilities

  • Financial accounting

  • Calculate accruals, prepayments, agreeing inter company balances and other accounting adjustments.

  • Process journal entries, maintain general ledger and general ledger reconciliation work.

  • Assist with the producing schedules required for Sox reporting.

  • Quarterly update of fx rates to technical system.

  • Ad hoc tasks as required.

  • Financial reporting

  • Produce monthly and quarterly technical reports from underwriting system (mainly Cognos).

  • Assist in preparing actual versus budget analysis.

  • Assist with the processing of commutations.

  • Analyse expenses.

  • Assist with preparation of annual statutory accounts and regulatory returns & investments

  • Prepare quarterly cashflow.

  • Prepare monthly download of technical cash.

  • Assist with preparation of currency matching schedules.

  • Prepare supporting investment schedules as needed.

  • Assist with collating and preparing supporting documents and schedules for the auditors.

Risk Management & Internal Control:

  • Awareness of activities being undertaken which contribute to the operation of internal controls and the risks these controls are mitigating.

Taxation

  • Assist with/prepare VAT returns (or information for group VAT return).

  • Assist with providing supporting analysis for Corporation Tax purposes.

Regulatory

Assist in preparation of data for capital modeling and regulatory returns.

Key Competencies & Qualifications

  • Graduate or must have a minimum of 3 years experience in an accounting or book-keeping role.

  • Competent Microsoft Office skills.

  • Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels.

  • Able to meet tight/multiple deadlines

  • Able to prioritise/work under pressure.

  • Flexible about working hours in busy periods

  • Able to work as part of a team.
