Accounts Assistant: We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our client’s team based in Taunton.

Our client is a major engineering success story; they are a world leading specialist wet blast company and have honed the technology into a sophisticated, controlled process that has an increasing range of applications across a variety of market sectors. They design, manufacture and supply high value, manual and automatic surface finishing machines to a growing customer base across the globe.
The Role
This Accounts Assistant role is primarily concerned with controlling and maintaining all aspects of our client’s Sales Ledger and Cashbook.
You will be responsible for updating the company’s Sales Ledger to include allocating receipts, reconciling accounts and liaising with customers. A key aspect of the job is also to handle the collection of debts due from customers, including putting accounts on stop and/or initiating legal proceedings.
In addition, this position will have full responsibility for the accounting of our client’s parent company, with the exception of Payroll. Duties will include processing of all supplier invoices, sales invoices and credit control, raising intercompany recharge invoices and agreeing intercompany balances and reconciling the bank account and petty cash balance.
Responsibilities
As Accounts Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
* Entering receipts and payments from GBP/EUR/USD bank accounts on a daily basis
* Bank, statement and ledger reconciliations
* Setting up customer accounts on Sage, obtaining credit references or credit reports and allocating payments
* Building relationships with customers to ensure queries are resolved and invoices are cleared for payment
* Petty cash and monthly reconciliation, to include posting transactions onto Sage
* Ensure sales invoices raised are properly pushed through to the Sales Ledger from the SOP module
* Responsibility of credit control, including taking appropriate action for late/non-payments
* Providing Bad Debt Report for monthly management meeting
* Raise intercompany invoices to correctly recharge expenses and ensure balances agree on a monthly basis
* Prepare simple management accounts for the Parent company on a monthly basis to include accruals and prepayment journals, fixed assets and depreciation
The Person
To be successful in your application for the role of Accounts Assistant, you must have / be:
* Educated to GCSE level – with Mathematics at Grade C or above.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
* Proven experience of Cashbook/Credit Control in an accounts environment
* Sound understanding of ledger procedures
* Ability to positively participate in a team environment
* Proactive approach to internal and external customer service
* Strong organisational, problem-solving and multi-tasking skills
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Desirable:
* AAT qualification
* Previous experience of SAGE Accounts system
* Ability to work to, and sometimes implement, processes
* Calm and confident manner to handle potentially difficult conversations when performing credit control duties
Salary and Hours
As Accounts Assistant you will work 35 hours per week Monday to Friday, and there is a salary on offer of £26,000 per year.
