Overview

This role entails working for a multi-million-pound real estate investment and development company. This will involve liaising with a number of our construction teams across the UK and taking overall responsibility for the procurement of construction-related material, plant and equipment.

The job will consist of you liaising regularly with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors to ensure all material, equipment and deliveries are on time and in full.

Position

The role of a Commercial Buyer within MCR Property Group will involve providing support to teams across the UK and maximising efficiencies within the procurement of materials.

The Commercial Buyer will be reporting to the Operations Manager and Asset Managers running monthly reports, costings, packages and variations. There will be a team of Project Managers working alongside you on these projects. Primarily office based with site visits for meetings and valuations depending on your level and location.

Responsibilities

  • Price up all materials and plant at the tendering stage for projects and supply prices to the estimating Team including groundwork materials, sub-structure, brickwork, carpentry, windows, hiring plant, cabins, cranes etc. ensuring that any potential price increases are factored into the costings.
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors/suppliers and create, and maintain a database of preferred suppliers, ensuring good relationships are maintained with the ‘key’ vendors.
  • Material buying activities including best cost, value, and quality of materials to meet project delivery lead times and ensure purchasing delays will not impact contract programmes.
  • Liaise with the Accounting function and place material purchase orders/invoices in line with construction programmes onto Sage and Propman.
  • Assist other departments such as Design and Estimating, Surveying, and Contracting, as workload dictates, with queries and packages to seek potential cost savings.
  • Involved in both direct and indirect procurement. Provide suggestions on further enhancing efficiencies.
  • To perform any reasonable duties as requested by your manager.

  • Able to work well under pressure and handle emergency and stressful situations.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
