The Job
To be part of team which is responsible for maintaining security and a safe environment for our Godalming based school.
Security Patrol Officer – Main Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibility will be to protect people in the community followed by the protection of buildings and property by:
- Providing uniformed high visibility security both in the vehicle and on foot
- Internal policing of school grounds which hold approximately 90 buildings. As well as lock up, buildings are re-checked for fire and security integrity.
- Attending Fire Alarm activations, and assisting with various fire drills
- Stopping and checking of unknown persons/vehicles or pupils 24/7. Pupils after 2200h.
- Carrying out traffic duties/traffic management including signage of school events
- Providing regular high profile mobile patrols.
- Use of CCTV /ANPR systems for investigations
- Barrier Management
- Door faults including swipe/biometric faults
- Dealing with calls, emails, and texts and following any issues through to resolution
- Completion of PNB (Pocket Notebook) for the recording of incidents, plus any additional actions and communication taken
- During periods of holiday and bad weather, checking of buildings for leaks/damage
- Assisting with the sorting and delivery of pupil parcels during holiday periods
- To carry out night patrol (Lone working – communication equipment will be provided).
- To be able to respond, assess, and escalate incidents when necessary
- To confidentially deal with emergency calls of all descriptions.

Salary – £14,487 pa for part-time role
Security Patrol Officer – Working Arrangements
This is a part time, all year-round position. Working days for this role are:
An average of 22.5 hours per week working the following rolling shift pattern: 2 days, 8 rest days, 2 nights, 4 rest days. The duration of each shift is 12 hours. You may be required to work outside of the normal rota to enhance cover during events such as the last nights of the terms,Triathlon, Carthusian Day, Leavers Ball and other events
All holiday dates will be agreed with the Chief Security Officer, and generally will need to conform to the following pattern (full-time):
33 days annual holiday entitlement for full-time patrol officers (pro-rata) – requests to take leave will be authorised by the Chief Security Officer or, in his absence, his deputy as appropriate.
January – April: Each Security Officer on rota to take 4 days’ consecutive leave, with only 1 staff member allocated block leave per month.
May – August: Each security Officer on rota to take 12 days’ consecutive leave, in 3 blocks of 4 days’ holiday; again, with only 1 staff member allocated block leave per month.
September – December: Each Security Officer on rota to take 8 days leave, in 2 blocks of 4 days’ holiday; with only 1 staff member allocated block leave per month. There will be no authorised holiday allocation after 10 December.
This leaves a balance of 9 days (pro-rata) per person to be used as individual days as and when requested.
As this post is part-time, the postholder will be required to take the following
holiday:
January – April, 2 days consecutive leave.
May – August, 6 days consecutive leave in 3 blocks of 2 days.
September – December, 4 days leave in 2 blocks of 2 days.
4.5 days (pro-rata) to be used as individual days as and when requested.
