My Client, an operator and maintainer of the Docklands Light Railway, have a requirement for a Communication Systems Engineer to provide engineering support to the maintenance and operations functions to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Docklands Light Railway.

Responsibilities
Development and maintenance of the DLR radio and fibre transmission systems.
Investigate faults, failures and railway performance issues when technical support or safely related input is required.
Co-ordinate and conduct communication system end-to-end performance and analysis studies.
Plan/structure own work and report to client project managers.
Engage with the client, maintenance and operations staff to determine requirements.
Produce technical specifications.
Evaluate supplier proposals, conduct design reviews and provide technical input to the acceptance process for new assets.
Review design and assurance submissions throughout the project life-cycle to establish that proposed changes to assets are suitable and sufficient for safe operation.
When required provide the Senior Communication Systems Engineer with technical support for other communication systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Ideally engineering degree such as communications or electrical and electronic engineering.
Membership of the IET or equivalent Chartered Engineer or actively working to C.Eng.
A minimum of 5 years experience of communications engineering, covering systems using radio and fibre transmission media is highly desirable.
Ability to survey, test and evaluate RF and optical transmission systems.
Knowledge of railway communication systems, systems interfaces, testing and maintenance is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience of LAN/MAN computer networks is desirable.
Ability to produce technical reports, procedures, specifications, method statements, risk assessments and drawings.
Good communications skills at all levels and the ability to train and assess staff.
