Purchasing / H&s Assistant

Smart Recruitment is currently recruiting a Purchasing Assistant to work at a busy Engineering company in Crewkerne. This is a multi-faceted role, and would suit someone who has a good all-round level of experience of office work.

The Role:
Working closely with the Purchasing Team Leader, the Purchasing Assistant will have ownership of relevant in-direct buying categories; processing purchase orders efficiently and managing agreed stock levels. You will have responsibility for the Health & Safety requirements of the company, ensuring our client is compliant in areas such as COSHH, RIDDOR and other applicable legislation. You will carry out risk assessments, and be responsible for the management of contractors to support the general maintenance of the site. Key activities such as handling supplier returns will form part of the role, along with other supporting tasks in their warehouse and stores areas.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Negotiating and placing orders for production and non-production materials
Managing stock levels of relevant consumables
Responsibility for Health and Safety requirements and compliance with relevant legislation
Producing ad-hoc reports to support the Purchasing function
Supporting the Purchasing Team Leader in running projects for the business
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
Experience within a purchasing environment would be advantageous but not essential
IT literate, eg- EFACS, MS Word, Outlook, Excel or similar
UK Driving Licence held
Strong numeracy skills
Good attention to detail
Articulate with clear verbal communication skills
Must be self-motivated and organised.
