Senior Power Supply Design Engineer

Due to continued growth of our global client we are seeking an experienced power supply design professional to work at their global Design Centre of excellence, based in West Sussex. The core purpose will be the development of power supply units from bespoke customer requirements to modifications and updates to existing product ranges. Ensure all developments meet customer requirements within budget and time.

Main Duties:
• Leading the design/development of new power system topologies and architectures.
• Utilising knowledge to create innovative design solutions which enrich products.
• Solving challenging technical problems to meet customers exacting requirements.
• Managing a project team when required including responsibility for the budget and timeline.
• Working with a project team to create the overall mechanical and PCB layout solutions required for a product with a low cost of ownership.
• Using simulation tools and electrical models to create an in depth knowledge to better understanding and reduce project risks.
• Design/development of analogue and digital circuits interface with complex customer systems.
• Coaching and mentoring of Technicians and Development Engineers.
• Supporting the preparation of technical handbooks and detailed specifications.
• Creating technical concepts; evaluating customer requirements, resource requirements and costs for non-standard customer enquiries.
• Observing and adhering to BS/ISO standards and procedures, Approvals, EMC and safety regulations.
• Liaising with employees, customers and third party organisations including sub-contractors.

Experience and skills required:
Essential
• Proven hardware design in power supplies from bespoke customer requirements
• Conceptual design i.e. mechanical/electrical layout
• Strong analogue design skills including high speed circuits and PCB layout principles
• Understanding of various switch mode technologies
• Experience of hardware integration with embedded software controls
• Used to working to milestones within a multi disciplined team(s)
• Strong analytical problem solving ability
• Strong communicator both written and verbal
• Ability to combine technical focus with commercial awareness

Desirable
• High voltage power supply design (typically from 1kV up to 300kV)
• Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree
• Designing for OEMs
• Knowledge of EMC standards and safety
• Knowledge of low ripple and low drift analogue applications

Advantageous
• Multi disciplinary background in electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering
