Would you like to put your modelling and simulation skills to use by joining the force behind our Armed Forces whilst ensuring our national security? If so, we have a unique opportunity to join us here at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).

As a Modelling and Simulation Engineer, you will be working with the latest military training systems whilst defining next generation software packages to help train our Army. You will join one of our following operating centres:

  • Land Equipment – covering a hugely diverse portfolio of Land Equipment projects including Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Main Battle Tanks, Artillery Fires Systems and Multi Launch Rocket Systems.
  • Weapons – Munitions and weapon systems ranging from small calibre bombs and bullets through to strategic missile systems.

If aligned to Land Equipment, you will be working on the Collective Training Transformation Programme (CTTP), which aims to deliver the Future Collective Training System (FCTS) to the Army. The FCTS will also transform the collective training experience for soldiers and commanders at all levels through improved access to data and a more flexible blend of live, virtual, and constructive training. We are looking for enthusiastic, diligent engineers with an interest in computer software, gaming or/and training systems for a multitude of projects.

Due to the nature of security requirements, this role is open to sole UK nationals only.

Please note, there may be frequent travel to other UK sites involved with this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and guidance in own technical area to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks
  • Work with our front line users to develop and mature requirements in order to provide the best possible technical solution
  • Manage the technical objectives for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service or system
  • Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks

Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (i.e. HNC) qualification in a relevant engineering field, or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
  • Experience of utilising modelling and simulation tools

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

  • Technical Requirements, Evaluation & Acceptance (Practitioner)
  • Leadership
  • Communicating and influencing
