Maritime Operations Controllers
Salary: £44,914 – £49,408/annum
Job Type: Permanent
Safer lives. Safer ships. Cleaner seas. Our vision is to be the best maritime organisation in the world. And in each of these two operational roles, which impact the lives of everybody in the UK, you’ll have a big part to play in making that vision a reality.
About the role
Leading and managing multiple teams at one of our operational centres in either Holyhead or Aberdeen, you’ll be responsible for planning and distributing HM Coastguard staff and resources to meet constantly changing risks and demands. Search and Rescue, Counter Pollution. Emergency Response and Disaster Management. All this and more will feature in your analysis and drive the big decisions you make. Following up on incidents, exercises and other operations, you’ll also be responsible for producing and reviewing reports, investigations and policy documents.
About you
The chances are, you’ll come to us from a maritime, military or emergency services background. Whatever the specifics, you’ll need considerable experience of controlling, managing and leading teams in a similar response environment. A recognised maritime qualification or experience would be an advantage as would a management or leadership qualification. But more important will be the outstanding organisational skills and calm, level-headed approach that will gain the confidence, trust and respect of everyone around you.
About the Maritime and Coastguard Agency
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is an executive agency of The Department for Transport. With an annual budget of £130million, a dedicated team of some 1100 professional staff and 3500 Coastguard volunteers, our role is to develop and implement the Government’s strategy for maritime safety and environmental protection. Beyond our Search and Rescue efforts through HM Coastguard and other emergency responders, it’s a responsibility that extends to education, prevention, regulation, inspection and setting maritime safety standards.
