Project Manager – fit-out – entry-level

Parkinson Gray Associates are a Yorkshire based construction recruitment business. We have been engaged by our Client, a major national retail focussed fit-out contractor, to assist them with their recruitment of an entry-level Fit Out Project Manager.

Based out of West Yorkshire, this contractor works directly with their end-user Clients – major national retailers with locations up and down the Country. They are seeking to bring new talent into their fit-out division. They are looking to hire at entry-level, in order to offer an opportunity for the right person to start their project management career and so that they may mould their management staff into the best fit out talent in the region.

As one of a handful of Project Managers in the fit-out division, you will be integral to their departments’ expansion plans and success. You will take full profit and loss responsibility for the timely, profitable and successful delivery of an extensive portfolio of works. By “fit out”, we mean all things that would be installed within a retail premises, minus mechanical and electrical building services. Whilst an individual project might well be modest in its scope, the multiple locations across the sites of major national retailers means that the total scheme value will often be extensive.

The challenge in retail contracting is considerable. My Clients works directly under the end-users on frameworks, which makes excellent customer service absolutely vital and retail Clients can be demanding ones! They need their premises back in order to generate revenue, so the nature of the works are often fast track and, on occasions, will require some unsocial hours. Combined with the national nature of the works, retail contracting is a demanding environment. Nevertheless, the sector is very busy and this Client is expanding. There is a significant opportunity for career progression as they continue to gain market share.

In terms of the person we are looking to speak to, we will ideally secure a Candidate with current exposure to the sector. Perhaps you are a Site Manager looking to make that first step up into project management. Whilst it would be ideal for you to have worked within retail contracting previously that is less important than having the right attitude. I know from experience of recruiting for this Client that they need people with a really positive, “can do” attitude. That might sound like a cliche, however, it really is true within this business. This role would test even the most experienced construction professional, so we are looking for the brightest and best to get in touch.
