Senior Infrastructure Engineer
I currently have a Development Infrastructure opportunity with a company that specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning, through to full implementation. They are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Engineer to join the team in Birmingham.
The Development Infrastructure team specialises in providing high level advice to mainly private sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Public Realm, Signal Design, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks, Flood Protection and Services Co-ordination and Utilities Diversion on Residential, Retail, Industrial and Commercial Developments both in the UK and overseas.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer, your will provide day to day project management (depending on experience), the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawing issue.
This role would involve contributions to all types of DI projects across all sectors and clients.
You can expect to be active on a number of project/client accounts at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support.
The position will also involve client and design team liaison, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals, financial control of projects when acting as a project manager and undertaking business development. It represents an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate.
You will be responsible, or actively engaged depending on experience, for ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards and meet QA, CDM and HSE requirements.
Preferred Qualifications / Education / Work Experience: You will have substantial post graduate (or equivalent) experience and either have been awarded or nearing Chartered or Incorporated status (CEng, MICE, MCIWEM, MCIHT), or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility. You should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in highway design (both S38 and S278 design experience), hydraulics and hydrology, flood risk assessment and management, drainage design (S104/S185) and preferably utility design as well as a wide knowledge of the Development Industry.
Skills: You will be able to produce masterplans, site appraisals, write reports (mainly Flood Risk Assessments) to support planning applications, produce design calculations and construction drawings. You will have a good knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets and Local Authority Design Guides, and well versed in the preparation of drawings for Contract Documents and S278, S104 and S38 Agreements. You should also have a sound knowledge of the National Planning Policy Framework and associated Technical Guidance, of the relevant design codes such as the SuDS Manual and Sewers for Adoption.
You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be aware of current and emerging technical and planning guidance on and the various areas of sustainability as for example climate change. You will be able to direct and check the use of relevant software including WINDES and PDS; additional hydraulic modelling experience would be beneficial (e.g. TUFLOW, Infoworks) but not essential. You will also need to have experience of liaison with clients, co-professionals and design teams, and be competent in liaising with highway, water, statutory and local authorities to negotiate the necessary outline and detailed technical approvals.
Business development acumen would be an added benefit.
Knowledge: You will have a good knowledge of the legal processes, planning, design, design software, technical consents process, adoption and contract procedures for the provision of sewers, SUDS, highways and utilities in new developments and regeneration projects and how if, applied effectively, these skills combine to add value to a client’s development proposal. You will also have a robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
